51 september 2015 | luxurylv.com "Style With A Cause was this crazy idea I came up with three years ago when I randomly said to a friend if I could travel the world and make women feel beautiful and style them that would be my best life ever. And that was the brainchild behind how Style With A Cause was born. "I wanted to create a day where we could forget everything and just think about ourselves. We could forget our insecurities and let our roadblocks dissolve for the day. Sometimes I think I created Style With A Cause because I am the one who needs the message more than anyone else," Doughton concedes with a knowing smile. During SWAC, Mercedes from Mix 94.1 and Rachel Smith of Fox5 will emcee a full slate of festivities that includes signature cocktails by Breckenridge Distillery, nibbles from Maggiano's, a fashion show by Saks Fifth Avenue and silent auction. But the most exciting thing happening this year, according to Doughton, involves the custom fabric SWAC commissioned especially for the third-annual event. Doughton designed the fabric using SWAC's original logo design and had a fabric manufacturer called SpoonFlower print it on material. Doughton then selected five designers to each make a one- of-a-kind design which will be showcased on the runway during the event and auctioned off. The designers include Las Vegas' own Jennifer Henry of Flock Flock Flock, who is well-known for creating dresses out of cellophane. With that in mind, Spoonflower has printed Henry's fabric on wrapping paper. Christina Rudigier, costume designer for Penn & Teller, will be creating an avant- garde piece for SWAC's runway show. Another designer is Junior League of Las Vegas' 2015 Fashion Forward winner Ilian Angulo. The final two are former "Project Runway" designers Joshua J. Christensen and Carlos Casanova. "Once the designers heard what we were doing, they wanted to be a part of it without question, which speaks volumes about what style with a cause is doing," says Doughton. A signature staple that SWAC has performed since its inception three years ago is a beauty transformation. This year's beauty transformation recipient is an OVIP, or client, from local non-profit Opportunity Village which serves children and adults in Southern Nevada with intellectual disabilities. "The reason I chose Opportunity Village as our beneficiary this year is because I wanted Style With A Cause to go a little bit deeper with OVIPS to work on their self-esteem and self-love and that's what sparked me into choosing them," expalins Doughton. "They have the same issues that we struggle with. They don't love their bodies, they don't love themselves. I was kind of taken aback because I wasn't ready for that," reveals Doughton, who got to know several OVIPs when she styled them for a fundraising event in the spring. Between beauty transformations and runway fashions, there really is something for everyone at SWAC says Doughton. "You can be the utmost fashionista and come for our super insane VIP swag bags and fashion shows or you can be somebody who doesn't care about fashion and be touched and inspired by the sheer power of what we are doing to celebrate women." Style With A Cause is Thursday, Sept. 17 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Fashion Show. General admission tickets are $100; front row seats are $125; and there are a limited number of VIP tables that seat 10 at $1,500 available. Tickets can be purchased at stylewithacause.com. q Custom fabric designed for style with a cause.
