[ Tel lu ride, Colorado – Rock y Mou nta i n H igh ] A great escape from the desert and into higher grounds, Telluride, Colorado offers a plethora of seasonal activities all year long. The trip to Telluride is nothing at which to scoff. No matter the form of transportation, getting there is part of the adventure. A nine-and-a-half-hour car ride from Las Vegas provides the ultimate road trip with breathtaking views of the red rocked canyons and architecture design courtesy of the rivers whose greatness created them. Pastures appear in the middle of nowhere with farmland, cattle and horses, and isolated, picture-perfect red barns. Amazingly beautiful rock formations curve with the open highway, and are even more beautiful when illuminated by the light of the moon. Driving to Telluride offers the opportunity to pass through four states -- Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Colorado. With enough time, consider taking a detour to the Four Corners Monument. The monument, representing the exact spot where New Mexico, Utah, Arizona and Colorado meet, is about two hours from Mesa Verde, Arizona; a World Culture Heritage Park where preserved cliff dwellings and mesa top villages were built between 450 and 1300 AD. Telluride by plane is a quicker choice, however, it is not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. Most air routes connect through Phoenix or Denver, than fly directly into the Telluride 72 luxury las vegas | october 2013 by stefanie van aken Regional Airport whose runway measures roughly 7,000 feet long and is located on top of a plateau. An easier landing is at Montrose County Airport in Montrose, Colorado, but is about an hour from Telluride by car. Because getting to Telluride is no easy feat, being there makes it all that more exclusive. Four Diamond hotels, world-class ski slopes, gourmet dining, and boutique shopping is a small taste of what it is like to experience Telluride. Many make the trek from all over the country and the world just to partake in the festivals and outdoor activities only Telluride can offer. This exclusivity and the quirky charm of the downtown area appeals to those who want to get away from it all and return to life at its most grassroots and homegrown. Pay attention because that familiar face on the street is most likely a movie star, TV personality, fashion icon or in a rock 'n' roll band. The town of Telluride operates the country's only free gondola that connects the neighboring European-style town of Mountain Village to downtown Telluride. The gondola offers spectacular views of the San Juan Mountains and valleys, showcasing the entire area for miles and miles. Plan enough time into your itinerary to view the majestic mountain sunsets, and enjoy the perfect way to end the day and celebrate your stay in Telluride.
